Meg — Writing letters from Austin, Texas
Hello!
I am the eldest of the 6 sisters. Not having an older sister to pass down her wisdom, means that I stumbled around frequently, and tried many things first. I never learned about periods, sex, relationships, or how to properly apply eyeliner from a friendly confidante, living in roughly the same phase of life as me.
The advantage of not knowing inspired me to look a little closer and seek answers to find a deeper understanding of these topics about womanhood.
After my discoveries, I wanted to share my experiences and all the information that I wish I had known earlier with my sisters. So, I’m excited that we created “Dear Sisters.”
Once a year we come together to talk as sisters do. Each year our gathering feels like a never-ending slumber party. Now that we are older, we have added motherhood, alternative relationship styles, aging gracefully, and cultivating beauty on the inside and out to our topics of interest. I enjoy the evolving natures of our discussions as we grow as individuals.
Looking back, because of the adventures I’ve had to find my answers, I’m glad that I got to be the one to go first.
Dia — Writing letters from Los Angeles, California
Hi. I’m Dia. If we were characters from Pixar’s “Inside Out,” I’d probably be Fear. Having lived in Hollywood for the past decade, I have inherited the constant anxiety that this city seems to impose: imposter syndrome with a bit of ageism, a dose of constant comparison and late night doomscrolling for anti-aging face creams. When I watched the popular musical, Hamilton, the line, “Why do you write like you’re running out of time,” made me burst into tears.
I love storytelling, screenwriting, film, acting, music, theater, and discovering new restaurants. I have an insane sweet tooth, a dread of dating apps, and find immense joy in giving gifts to people I love. I’m a dreamer. Always have been. It’s the only thing that keeps me alive, but I’m pretty sure it’s going to kill me. But hey, I’m never bored.
Jade — Writing letters from Salt Lake City, Utah
It’s so nice to meet you! I am deeply in love with my husband, unconditionally devoted to my son, and smitten by my two huge huskies! I’m the “practical” sister who chooses comfort over glam (but when no one’s looking, I’m dreaming just as fiercely as anyone!). I’m responsible, resilient, and unapologetically emotional. My sisters might say that I’m the “confident one”, and I would have to agree ;).
I’ll be writing about writing, reading, pregnancy and motherhood, marriage, and being a working mom (and breadwinner) in tech within my family dynamic. In my free time, when I’m not writing blogs or books, I’m going on walks, taking bubble baths, and being strangely obsessed with the color green!
Rena — Writing letters from Eugene, Oregon
Hi there, pleasure to meet you! I’m Rena, the non-traditional 27 year old college student who blends in with her 19 year old peers due to her baggy ripped jeans, fishnets, and winged eyeliner. I love science and true crime, so I’m studying Biological Anthropology. Any classes about human evolution or sexuality, sign me up! I feel like I’ve never fully grown out of my 2000’s alternative phase, so catch me still jamming to Blink-182 and wearing all black! I’m a drummer who plays in a grungy alternative band locally, and I’ve recently taken on being a drum teacher as well. There’s nothing better than teaching others how to do what you LOVE to do!
I’m a perfectionist who has major anxiety about being late, has a hard time saying no, has 50 alarms on her phone, a dog mom to the cutest senior chihuahua, is unapologetically queer and non-monogamous, and is obsessed with Thai food. I’ll be writing about true crime, non-monogamy, all things LGBTQ and sexuality, tips on playing in local bands, college life, mental health, fitness, and minimalist alt fashion!
Nikki — Writing letters from Vancouver, Washington
Hi, I’m Nikki! I live in the beautiful PNW where the cloudy weather matches my mellow demeanor most days. I enjoy a quiet life walking my rescue dog Scarlet on nature trails, giving dog’s haircuts at my job, and re-reading my favorite romance comic books. I am highly empathetic and sensitive, crying daily at animal videos. Animals are a huge part of my life and I tend to connect with them more than people, although I do have very deep connections with some.
Trusting is sometimes difficult for me because of past traumas, but I am fiercely loyal to people I care about. I enjoy exploring creative outlets such as make-up and art. Other things I indulge in is video games and reality TV. I’ve lived a life that’s been full of every emotion a human can feel, and I believe it’s led me to become an understanding, honest, and compassionate person. I will be writing about beauty, dating and relationships, tips on how to care for your pets grooming needs, and more!
Misty — Writing letters from Salt Lake City, Utah
Hi, Misty here! I have been living in Northern Utah for the past 8 years and have been loving my very normal life. I graduated college with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, and immediately got that classic 9AM-5PM office job as a software developer. I have been in one really long relationship with my “college sweetheart”. I wouldn’t say I have anything that really stands out about the way I go about my days. I don’t think that’s a bad thing, though!
All of my sisters are pretty extraordinary in different ways, but I like to enjoy my routine, my comfort, my certainties. If you throw a bump in the road I will freak out! I’ll do my best to share how I find happiness in the little things and how nothing is pointless if it brings you joy.
